Awareness Through Movement ® Classes

Awareness Through Movement® classes consist of verbally-directed movement sequences presented primarily in a small group setting. Each lesson is usually organized around a particular function or movement challenge. Students will gain a greater range of motion, increased coordination and better balance.

In class, the group will engage in specific movement explorations that involve thinking, sensing, moving, and imagining. Many of these exercises are based on developmental movements and everyday activities. Others are based on more abstract explorations of joint, muscle, and postural relationships. All classes engage in comforatble, easy movements that gradually and painlessly evolve into movements of greater range and complexity.

A major benefit of Awareness Through Movement is learning how your most basic movement functions are organized. By becoming attentive to the details of your actions, you can learn how to:

– attend to your whole self
– eliminate unnecessary energy expenditure
– mobilize your intentions into actions

Awareness Through Movement is a mindfulness practice that leads to greater body awareness.
